I
bet you thought you were going to read another hum-drum case review for
the ever so popular HP (COMPAQ) iPAQ.
I could easily type the words VAJA
Cases at the top of the page,
create a hyperlink to VAJA's website and the images of this case would
say it all. But I think when
Gabriella, of VAJA Cases
, agreed to send me the case to review, she was expecting more than a
link back to their website. I cannot begin to describe the beauty of this case. It fits the iPAQ like a glove and traces the sleek lines of the iPAQ. If you have ever owned a VAJA case, you know the wonderful smell you get the minute you open the box. Don't ask me how they did it, but the leather on this case is some how formed around three layers of hard ABS plastic that protects the iPAQ better than any other case on the market….period. As with any case, I think there are three main factors that go into a successful design. Protection is number one. The only reason to have a case is to protect an expensive investment from every day wear and tear. Number two is being able to leave the device in the case at all times. That means while it is in the cradle charging or syncing and being able to use the features of the device without being hindered by the case. Things such as reading an e-book or listening to MP3's. The final design in a successful case is fit and finish. You don't want a case that adds to the size and weight of the device or makes it hard to carry around every day. Lets look at the protection the case provides. It is very important to me to keep my investment of almost $700.00 in pristine condition for as long as I have it. The i-Volution protects the screen with a hard, durable screen insert. It is extremely durable and probably has the stiffest nserts I have ever seen. The entire case is made from leather, so the iPAQ is not exposed to Velcro, snaps or zippers of any kind. Speaking of the closure system, there is a very strong magnet built into the tab in the base of the Morpheus. It is almost impossible to accidentally open. The only way to open it is by placing your thumb and forefinger on either side of the tab, and pulling it away from the bottom. This is a priceless feature for people who keep there device in a bag or pocket book. Since the case is exclusively designed for the iPAQ, including the 3600, 3700, 3800 and 3900 series) it rarely needs to be taken out of the case. Whether you are listening to MP3's, reading a book, playing a game or even Syncing in the cradle, the Morpheus never gets in the way. I did have some trouble at first making the iPAQ fit in its cradle with the case on, but after a while it fit perfectly. The reset hole is exposed for easy access as well as all the buttons. While the case is closed, you can access the stylus and the headphone jack. A feature needed if you often listen to MP3's. Anyone who
is reading this review already knows Vaja cases. They are
legendary amongst Pocket PC user as well as Palm users. Superb
